Women sport news - The 2009 European Figure Skating Championships  Helsinki, Finland Day 1,2 and 3
Jana Khokhlova/Sergei Novitski of Russia strengthened their lead in the Original Dance ahead of Italy’s Federica Faiella/Massimo Scali and Sinead Kerr/John Kerr (GBR). Khokhlova/Novitski chose “Sam’s Blues” and the upbeat “Putting on the Ritz” for their dance.

To the delight of the home crowd, Finland’s Laura Lepistö and Susanna Pöykiö finished first and second in the Ladies Short Program. Carolina Kostner of Italy came in third.

The 2009 edition of the Europa Cup opened in Koog aan de Zaan with the German team Adler Rauxel against the Russian champions Orel STU. The Russians proved that the recent rise in the rankings of Russian korfball was deserved as they beat the German team 25-9 with Sergey NIZOVSKIY scoring more than half his teams goals with 13, mostly from medium or long distance.
