U.S. Figure Skating announced today the selection of Lake Placid, N.Y., as the host city for 2009 Skate America. The international figure skating event is one of six stops on the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series. Competition will take place Nov. 12-15, 2009, at the 1980 Arena.

Safe Return for Chemmy Alcott

Britain’s top female skier Chemmy Alcott made a safe return to racing on Saturday, January 24, less than two months after suffering a fractured ankle. She finished a creditable 47th in the FIS World Cup Downhill event at Cortina in Italy.
