U.S. Snowboardings Lindsey Jacobellis (Stratton Mountain, VT) joined Holland, repeating her win. It was the fifth X Games gold for both.

U.S. Figure Skating announced today the selection of Lake Placid, N.Y., as the host city for 2009 Skate America. The international figure skating event is one of six stops on the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series. Competition will take place Nov. 12-15, 2009, at the 1980 Arena.

The competition at the ISU European Figure Skating Championships 2009 concluded Saturday with the Ladies Free Skating in Helsinki, Finland.

Liu Shiwen was crowned Womens Singles champion at the ITTF Pro Tour Danish Open. The 17 year old teenager succeeded in the final in four straight games against Korea’s Kim Kyung Ah.

The Forexx Women’s World Open Squash 2009, the most prestigious event on the Women’s International Squash Players\' Association (WISPA) World Tour, will be staged in the Frans Otten Stadion in Amsterdam. The championship will take place from 20-27 September 2009 at the biggest squash centre in the Netherlands.

The third round tie at The Australian Open dismissed a few of the ladies seeds. Amelie Mauresmo was defeated by Victoria Azarenka in straight sets along with Flavia Pennetta and Alona Bondarenko. Serena Williams won her match against Chinas Peng Shuai, Dementieva and Kuznetsova also through.

Britain’s top female skier Chemmy Alcott made a safe return to racing on Saturday, January 24, less than two months after suffering a fractured ankle. She finished a creditable 47th in the FIS World Cup Downhill event at Cortina in Italy.
