It was expected to be a great race and it was. Rebecca Adlington has been crowned as Olympic Champion in the women's 400m freestyle, becoming the first British gold medallist since Anita Lonsborough, forty eight years ago, and the first ever Gold medallist for Britain in the Women's 400m freestyle.

REBECCA ADLINGTON (pictured) today became the first British female swimmer to be crowned as Olympic champion since 1960 when she won the 400 metres freestyle as Joanne Jackson made it a memorable double for Team GB in Beijing by claiming the bronze.

Four more sailing classes will head out to the startline for the first time at this Olympic regatta on Monday (11 August). The U.S. Olympic Team for Women's Water Polo were given all they could handle in their opening game against China as they battled back for a 12-11 win in their first game of Group A play at the Ying Tung Natatorium. Natalie Golda (Fullerton, CA) led the team on offense with four goals while Kami Craig (Santa Barbara, CA) tossed in three.

After surviving a 12-11 scoring fest against China, the U.S. Olympic Team for Women’s Water Polo returns to action on Wednesday to take on defending Olympic Gold Medalists in the form of Italy. The game begins at 3:40pm (12:40am PST) at the Ying Tung Natatorium.

The top two teams have separated from the pack with the leaders, Great Britain on 16 points and the Dutch on 18 points. The Yngling fleet get a rest day tomorrow.

Italian Valentina Vezzali defeated Nam Hyunhee of Korea to win Olympic Gold. She made Olympic Fencing history at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games with her third Olympic Gold medal in Women's Individual Foil.

Germany leads the Equestrian Eventing competition by a slender margin after passing early leaders Australia during Monday's Cross-Country phase. During a round in which no rider finished within the time limit of eight minutes, the German team took the overall lead on 158.10, with Australia less than one jumping penalty behind on 162.

After the completion of Subdivision 3, China still tops the overall scoreboard with 248.275 in the Team competition, followed by the United States (246.800) in second place. Russia overtook Romania (238.425) to take third place with 244.400. Australia finished fifth with 235.450.
