Third gold for Denmark
Denmark took the third gold in the history of the European Championships in this age group. After the first edition in 1996 and again in 2007, the Danish girls beat the hometown of the Netherlands on sunday with 29-27. At halftime Denmark led by four goals: 17-13. The fysical Danish team was too strong for the dutch, that can be proud after having played a superb tournament.
Best player Denmark: Cecilie Greve.
Best player Netherlands: Tess Wester.
Austria takes bronze, Serbia 4th
Austria takes the bronze medals home. The team of coach Helfried Müller beat Serbia on sunday in Rotterdam: 34-28. At halftime the Austrian team lead by 2 goals: 15-13. It's a historic result for Austrian handball, the team ended previous tournaments as 14th, 15th and 16th.
Sonja Frey once again made the difference. The captain and star player of ,red and white, Austrian dynamite' team scored 8 goals. The tough Austrian defence was too strong for the Serbian attacks. In the second half Serbia seemed tired, Austria managed to keep playing a solid match.
