London Prepares test event – Rhythmic gymnastics day two

The Great Britain rhythmic group fell agonisingly short of the benchmark score at the London Prepares gymnastics test event and will now not be nominated British Gymnastics to the BOA to take a host nation place at the London 2012 Olympics.
Set a target score of 45.223 (82% of the score achieved by World champions Italy in 2011) over the two day qualification competition the girls scored a total of 44.950.
British Gymnastics Olympic Performance Director Tim Jones said: “The benchmark score had to be achieved in the qualification competition and so now our situation is that we will not be nominating a group to the BOA to compete at the Olympic Games. The girls have done a terrific job to raise their level and should be very proud of their achievements but unfortunately they won’t be representing GB at this years Games.”
Having scored 23.100 for their ball routines on day one, the girls performed with three ribbon and 2 hoops today, some minor mistakes early on limiting their score to 21.850.
Britain’s individual Frankie Jones, here to gain competition experience, started the second day with her ribbon routine. After showing a few nerves on the first day Frankie looked purposeful and determined from the off, her routine full of confidence, much to the delight of the vocal home crowd to score her 23.250.
