FA WSL Reaction: Kim Little pleased with Arsenal's bounce-back ability

A Kim Little brace yesterday saw momentum in the race for the inaugural FA WSL title swing back in Arsenal's favour as they trounced Lincoln 4-0 at Meadow Park.

The Gunners and league leaders Birmingham have been trading blows at the top of the table and trying to out-do each other; Blues would win one day then Arsenal would do similar the next.

Over the last week, they kept their battle tight by both losing to Everton but Birmingham then went and dropped points to Lincoln on Sunday, whereas the Gunners had no trouble against the Lady Imps whatsoever.

Arsenal midfielder Little was pleased to bounce back from their loss to the Toffees with a convincing victory and to see their fate back in their own hands.

"It was a great win for us. Four goals scored and zero conceded so that was exactly the way we want to bounce back from a poor performance on Sunday," she said.

"I love scoring for the team and helping us win. Everyone contributed and the team worked so hard today.

"I think we can still play better but we performed the way we can, we kept the ball on the ground and yeah it was fairly comfortable in the end against a top side with a lot of international players."

Julie Fleeting opened the scoring and Danielle Carter continued her wonderful goalscoring form to aid Little's two strikes and both the Scot and manager Laura Harvey praised Carter yet again.

The 18-year-old's latest strike was possibly better than the two she bagged against Chelsea a week ago and could be in the running for goal of the season.

"Two goals the other week and a fantastic strike with her left foot," Little said. "She is a youngster coming through so it is great for her."

Gunners boss Harvey added: "Dan is on fire at the minute. I am so pleased for her because when you are a young player at Arsenal there is a little bit of expectation and it is hard to get into the side initially.

"Sometimes when they get their chance it becomes a little bit too big for them but she has taken it by the scruff of the neck and the goals she is scoring at the moment are frightening - long may it continue.

"[I am] massively happy with the win and happy with the reaction of the players - we needed a big performance and I think we got it."

Meanwhile Lincoln manager Rod Wilson was disappointed with his side's performance, admitting they just did not turn up on the day.

"We were terrible," he said. "We never turned up, never got off the coach - we might as well not have got on the coach in the first place.

"We got stuck into Birmingham [on Sunday] but today we never got anywhere near Arsenal and they deserved it. We improved in the second half but there was nothing we could do then because the game was over."
