Defending Champion Venus Williams and N02 seed Jelena Jankovic both safely through to the 4th Round . Elena Dementieva fought through a tough match to continue her campaign defeating Gislea Dulko. The big upset of the day came for the number 9 seed Dinara Safina loosing in straight sets to Shahar Peer. Nadia Petrova defeated youngster Victoria Azarenka to reach the fourth round.

Afternoon thunderstorms near Edina, Minn., suspended U.S. Women's Open play for 2 hours, 27 minutes—from 4:20 p.m. Central time until 6:47 p.m. Play resumed until the second round was called for the day due to darkness. The third leg of the FINA 10km Marathon Swimming World Cup series of 2008, which took place on Saturday, June 28 in Setubal, Portugal, resulted in gold medals for Ana Marcela Cunha (BRA) in the women’s race. Cunha completed the Setubal Bay course in 2:06:04

World N01 Ana Ivanovic came crashing out of Wimbledon today to China's Jie Zheng 6-1 6-4. Ivanovic was clear favourite coming into the tournament havin secured the French Open. Former Champion Amelie Mauresmo also went out today to another former Champion Serena Williams in two sets. Kuznetsova and Radwanska continue their campaign with third round wins.

In the final pool game, with both Great Britain and Netherlands already qualified for Saturday’s final, GB took a 2-1 lead into the break after goals from Crista Cullen and Alex Danson.

World N0 1 Ana Ivanovic indeed needed to kiss the net that saved her Wimbledon Campaign. Her apponent Natalie Dechy of France played fantastic tennis not giving Ivanovic an inch. The final score 7-6 6-7 8-10.

The Former Champion and N03 seed Maria Sharapova was defeated by fellow Russian Alla Kudryavtseva in two straight sets 6-2 6-4. Other seeds to fall today were Sania Mirza, Vera Zvonareva. Lindsey Davenport withdrew with a knee injury.

Former Siena women’s basketball players Gunta Basko and Liene Jansone will be playing for their home country of Latvia in the upcoming summer Olympics in Beijing, China. Latvia earned a spot in the 12-team tournament by routing Angola 84-26 in the 2008 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Spain earlier this month.

We started of in Ivrea Italy with the World Champs where individually my results were a little disappointing, 9th in classic and 4th in sprint. But we triumphed in the team sprint, winning the silver medal, the first world champs medal Britain has won for 13 years. This was absolutely great and really topped of a weeks very exciting racing.
