Canoeing-Britain's Jessica Oughton claims silver in Italy

We started of in Ivrea Italy with the World Champs where individually my results were a little disappointing, 9th in classic and 4th in sprint. But we triumphed in the team sprint, winning the silver medal, the first world champs medal Britain has won for 13 years. This was absolutely great and really topped of a weeks very exciting racing.

I went into the World cup series feeling confident as during the world champs I felt I had the most speed. I won the first World Cup race by one second, my first World Cup medal and my first Senior Gold! This was the sprint race in Karlovy Vary Czech. The classic race the next day was terrible though and I came 9th.

In the Lofer the next weekend it was the most exciting race Ive ever done, the sprint on the saturday. It was a great course, very tricky and varied with a bit of everything! After the first runs I was in second place to the World Champion Nathalie Gastanua of France, then I pulled out the stops in the second run and did a humdinger, going 7 seconds faster. This time was faster than a lot of the boys in my team and I was amazed and so happy! This gave me my second Gold medal of the series, putting me back in 1st place overall, dispite the terrible classic race the previous sunday.

The next day was the final race, a classic race (my weaker of the two events by far). I knew that to keep my place of 1st in the world cup I had to win the race, but didnt feel very confident after being more than 40 seconds down on the winner in the previous classic. None the less I did the best classic race of my life as I just wanted a that world cup so much! I came third in this race, my first ever classic senior medal, less than a second of the time of Sabine Eichenburger (Classic world champion and winner of previous world cup classic). This wasn't enough to make up for the 9th place in Karlovy Vary, but enough to put me in second place overall in world cup, a position which I am truely stoked about!
