The second event of the 2008-09 Samsung ISU World Cup Short Track season was held this weekend in Vancouver, Canada at the Pacific Coliseum. With the 2010 Olympic Games less than sixteen months away, the world’s best short track skaters got their first taste of the Olympic venue.
The Korean and Canadian teams had an impressive weekend with the Korean team leaving Vancouver with 11 medals, while the Canadian team, taking advantage of skating on home ice and, taking 8 medals. The other medals throughout the weekend went to China with 6 medals, the United States with 4 medals, and Great Britain with one.
The schedule of races at this weekend’s Samsung ISU World Cup Short Track had the athletes compete in the 1000 meters distance twice. The first of the ladies 1000 meters event was a battle between China and Korea. Meng Wang (China) took the win ahead of her teammate Qiuhong Liu took second. Shin-Young Yang of Korea finished third.
