Samsung ISU World Cup Short Track Salt Lake City


The 2008-09 Samsung ISU World Cup Short Track season kicked off this weekend in Salt
Lake City, United States of America, in the first of six World Cup events. The event was held
at the Utah Olympic Oval.

The Korean team dominated this weekend, with the team leaving Salt Lake City with 13
medals. The Chinese team earned 7 medals, while the Canadian team earned 6 medals. The
only other team to take medals was the United States, with 4 medals.

The schedule of races at this weekend’s Samsung ISU World Cup Short Track had the
athletes compete in the 1500 meters distance twice. The ladies 1500 meters events were
dominated by the skaters from China and Korea. The first of the ladies 1500 meters event was
won by Yang Zhou of China, who had finished third overall in the 2007-08 World Cup
distance classification. She edged out some though competition from the Koreans Ba-Ra Jung
and Shin-Young Yang, who took second and third respectively.

In the second ladies 1500 meters event, it was Sae-Bom Shin of Korea to take the win, ahead
of the Chinese skaters Yang Zhou and LinLin Sun.
