Cook earns second career Nor-Am podium in Panorama
LAKE LOUISE, AB Brittany Phelan (Mont Tremblant, QC) led the way as Canadians took the top five spots in today’s Northwest Funds Coupe Nor-Am Cup ladies slalom in Panorama Mountain Village near Invermere, BC.
Phelan had the best time in both runs and finished with a two-run combined time of one minute 49.62 seconds to secure her first career Nor-Am Cup win.
“I'm really happy with my result from today,” said Phelan, a second-year member of Canada’s national development team. “After the first run it was a very tight race and I knew if I held back second run, victory wouldn't necessarily be mine. So I attacked in the second run and skied smart.”
Phelan, who led by 0.39s after the opening run, was followed on the podium by Eve Routhier (Sherbrooke, QC) (1:50.80) and Erin Mielzynski (Guelph, ON) (1:51.19). In fact, Canadians took the top five spots overall with Elli Terwiel (Sun Peaks, BC) placing fourth followed by Madison Irwin.
“It was great that Canada swept the podium today. We are a great team and it feels good to be showing it on race day,” Phelan said.
On the men’s side, American Will Gregorak, who had a podium result in the Northwest Funds Coupe Nor-Am Cup super-G in Lake Louise, continued his excellent skiing by winning today’s men’s giant slalom in a two run time of 2:27.80. Norway’s Peter Brenna was second, 0.21s back with Dustin Cook (Lac Sainte Marie, QC) picking up his second career Nor-Am podium, finishing in third spot.
The Northwest Funds Coupe Nor-Am Cup event in Panorama, BC continues tomorrow with another men’s GS and ladies slalom.
