STONEHAM, Quebec - Lindsey Jacobellis (Stratton Mountain, VT) continued to reign supreme over the world of snowboardcross Thursday as she marked her 17th career World Cup win in Stoneham.
Being able to work the course features was the advantage Jacobellis had in order to win Thursday.
"Before the first bank turn of finals Mellie [Francon, Switzerland] had a commanding lead on me. There were eight rollers or more, but the last three are tricky because they're deep, but you can't double them so you have to try to pump them as fast as you can," Jacobellis explained. "She got bobbled on them and I was able to stay down on the ground a little better, which led me in to the bank turn first and I just tried to hold it down from there."
For Jacobellis, who now holds the honor of having the most World Cup SBX wins after trumping Canada's Jasey Jay Anderson's with 16 last weekend, being able to consistently beat out the competition consistently and be on top is an accomplishment.
"I didn't ever want to focus on that, but now that it's happened and I've accomplished that, it's awesome to look back and to see what I've done for the sport and to raise the bar for women," Jacobellis said.
For now, Jacobellis gets to spend some time at home with her family before moving on to the U.S. leg of the SBX World Cup on Sunday River, ME.
"I'm excited to scoot home for a bit and spend two nights in my bed and have my mom cook me a couple meals. I'll be fresh for the next race," Jacobellis said.
