CANADIAN PARA-ALPINE SKI TEAM LEAVES FRANCE IN SECOND PLACE IN NATIONS CUP

Edmonton’s Kimberly Joines wins today’s slalom, continuing impressive World Cup winning streak

QUERAS, FRA (January 18th, 2008) - Kimberly Joines (Edmonton, AB) won today’s slalom to close out the IPC World Cup event in Queras, FRA, giving her 11 consecutive World Cup wins on the season in the Ladies sitting skier division.

Joines finished today in a two-run combined time of two minutes 03.71 seconds.

In total the Canadian team won three gold and a silver on the day and leave the second IPC World Cup stop in second place in the Nations Cup standings with 4472 points. Austria, which has 21 athletes competing to just nine for Canada, leads with 6686 points.

Canada’s best ever Nation’s Cup performance for an entire IPC World Cup season is fourth.

In the Ladies standing category today, Lauren Woolstencroft (North Vancouver, BC / Calgary, AB) took home gold with a two-run time of 1:59.41, to win in impressive fashion by more than five seconds.

“We skied a lot of slalom last week in the super combined so I felt pretty prepared. I quite enjoy slalom but it’s also a frustrating, sort of a love-hate relationship,” said Woolstencroft of the most technical discipline.

Also in the Ladies standing category, Andrea Dziewior (Nanaimo, BC) improved on her best IPC World Cup finish yesterday with a fifth place finish today. She was sixth in yesterday’s slalom.
