| COPPER MOUNTAIN, Colo. (Nov. 15) - U.S. women also had two podiums. Canadian Caroline Calve won the women's race (1:56.44) with U.S. women completing the podium. Brooke Shaw (Stratton Mountain, VT), normally a snowboardcross or halfpipe rider, was second in 1:59.32 and veteran Lynn Ott (Bend, OR) finish third. The top U.S. riders - Michelle Gorgone (Sudbury, MA), Erica Mueller (Steamboat Springs, CO) and Lindsay Lloyd (Centerville, UT) - all fell. Lloyd was victimized when her binding broke. Head Coach Peter Foley was pleased with the men's performance but disappointed as he watched his top women spill. "Brooke rode great. She did a fine job. This isn't her event and she still went for it," he said. The event was originally scheduled as a PGS, but was run as an individual GS due to early season snow cover. The first NorAm - and Race to the Cup - stop concludes Friday with a slalom. The Race to the Cup helps alpine riders qualify for the parallel GS during the Visa U.S. Snowboarding Cup March 1-3 when the World Cup schedule comes to Lake Placid, NY.
