Britt Janyk 0.01 from first Europa Cup win since 2002

Britt Janyk (Whistler, BC) finished second today at a Europa Cup super G in St. Moritz, SUI, missing out on top spot by just 0.01s.

Janyk, who has three career Europa Cup victories all in the technical discipline of giant slalom, finished today’s super G in one minute 22.40 seconds.

Italian Wendy Siopaes was just 0.01s faster with Switzerland’s Dominique Gisin finishing the extremely tight race third in 2:22.43.

Canada’s Emilie Desforges (Montréal, QC) tied for eighth.

Today’s race was used by some as a tune-up for the FIS Alpine World Cup, which stops in St. Moritz for ladies super combined, downhill and super G beginning Friday.

The Europa Cup is an highly competitive European-based alpine ski race series with similarities to North America’s Coupe Nor-Am Cup. Janyk, a World Cup downhill winner in 2007, last won a Europa Cup race in 2002.
