The Freeski & Snowboard World Cup Corvatsch in Silvaplana ends on Sunday with the spectacular snowboarding Slopestyle Final. For the second time in a row snowboarders finish their FIS World Cup season at Corvatsch. Anna Gasser (AUT) and Marcus Kleveland (NOR) win the Slopestyle and thus the last contest of the season, both beaming about the CHF 11,250 prize money respectively.
The Snowboard World Cup Final – Once again the weather plays along in Graubünden and with perfect park conditions at the Corvatsch Park where the riders reach deep into their boxes of tricks. In the women’s event, Austria’s double Olympic champion, Anna Gasser, takes the title hands down. Already in the lead after the first run, she tops her own score in the second, which the judges reward with 95.40 out of 100 possible points. Gasser thus celebrates her first Slopestyle victory this season at the World Cup Final in Silvaplana. We caught up with her in the best of moods, enthusing: „It has been such a fun week. Such a great course, such great weather. And I think it’s so cool that we all could show our best riding today. Everyone did 9-9-10 combos. It was a really high level contest with a lot of fun.“
Canada’s Laurie Blouin, Big Air World Champion 2021, finishes the season in second place ahead of Japan’s Kokomo Murase, who bags both the big and small crystal globes, due to her outstanding performances in the 2021/22 season. Switzerland’s Ariane Burri finishes in an excellent fifth place.
The men’s final is almost unrivalled in terms of voltage. In the second run, the lead changes constantly, keeping the outcome nerve-racking right up until the very end. The level increases run after run, which makes the final probably the most exciting of the season. Marcus Kleveland repeats his Corvatsch victory from last year with the top run of the day (91.60 points). „To end a season like this is just incredible. Also to stand here with Mons and Vale just feels incredible. Good day. The riding was insane. I can’t believe the level that we ride now. It’s scary and fun.“ Hot on his heels in second place is his fellow countryman and Olympic silver medalist Mons Roisland. Australia’s Valentino Guseli bumps Sven Thorgren off the podium, leaving him to ask the 16-year-old halfpipe specialist: „And where do you come from?“ Local hero Nicolas Huber wows numerous fans with a strong run and 6th place.
Today marks the end of the World Cup season for the snowboarders, who joined the freeskiers for the 2nd time for the common season end in Silvaplana. They will be back in 2023, and in three years’ time, they will be competing for World Championships medals at Corvatsch, as Engadine will be hosting the FIS Freestyle World Championships in 2025.
