Two-time U.S. champion Alissa Czisny is resting comfortably after having successful surgery today to repair a torn labrum in her left hip, her mother, Debbie Czisny, said.
The surgery was performed in Nashville by Dr. J.W. Thomas Byrd, who has
served as a physician for the U.S. Olympic Team and is the NFL Tennessee
Titans team physician. Czisny's injury was discovered last month after
an MRI revealed a labral tear, which affects the soft tissue between the
hip joint and the femur.
Czisny, 24, is expected to be off the ice for up to four months as she
rehabilitates the hip. She hopes to return to competition for the last
event of the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series, the NHK Trophy,
which will be held Nov. 23-25 in Miyagi, Japan.
