Wu Yang Wins in Poland to Collect Second ITTF Pro Tour Title of the Year

Crowned World Junior champion in December 2009 in the Colombian city of Cartagena de Indias, 19 year old Wu Yang won the Women’s Singles title at the Polish Open in Wladyslawowo to collect her second ITTF Pro Tour crown of the year.
In January she succeed at the Slovenian Open beating Li Xiaoxia in the final; in Wladyslawowo she once again confronted a compatriot at the ultimate stage beating 22 year old Wang Xuan in the final.
However, it was a tough test against the player who had negotiated two days of qualification matches; Wu Yang had to recover from a three games to one deficit to secure victory. She succeeded 6-11, 11-9, 11-13, 3-11, 11-9, 11-9, 11-4.
Underlines Strenght in Depth The performance of 22 year old Wang Xuan at the Polish Open underlines the immense strength in depth of table tennis in China and it endorses their coaching system.
Currently, owing to her lack of opportunities to play internationally, the world ranking of Wang Xuan lapsed in December 2010, the previous month in November she had been listed at no.88 with her career high being no.77. She achieved that ranking on both December 2009 and February 2010.
They are not statistics that raise the eyebrows; simply more opportunities to play at international level and surely Wang Xuan would have commanded a higher global status.
Higher Ranking Inevitable No doubt, when the World Rankings are issued in early April, the name Wang Xuan will appear and it will be a career high.
Not Selected Equally Wang Xuan has never been selected for an Olympic Games, World Championships or World Junior Championships.
She has never played in a world title event and her only real claim to fame is that she won the Girls’ Doubles title at the World Cadet Challenge in 2002.
