Katrina Wright's bid to become just the second Australian female bowler to claim the World Cup is gaining momentum following another strong day on the Warilla greens.
Despite a morning loss to Hong Kong-China's Tammy Tham, Wright hit back hard during the afternoon session against Norfolk Island's Debbie Wilford to register a strong straight sets win.
"I was a little disappointed to lose this morning," Wright said.
"It's important to try and win as many games as possible and to get through the qualifiers...but I'm still here with a chance.
"It was good to be able to come back this afternoon and get a win."
With crunch matches against the Philippines' Rosita Bradborn and world number two Val Smith looming, Wright is well aware of the difficulty of the task, but remains upbeat that her best bowls are still to come.
In the Junior World Cup, Sam Shannahan's title defence appears in tatters after dropping a fourth match in six starts, with the Australian young gun now requiring a miracle to secure back-to-back wins.
Facing off against Scotland's Rebecca Campbell, Shannahan was downed in a tie-breaker before fighting back to dispose of Singapore's Shermeen Lim, but a narrow loss to the Philippines' Ainie Knight this afternoon has made her task all but insurmountable.
Staged from April 12 to 20 at the Warilla Bowling Club, the World Cup and Junior World Cup features competitors from 26 nations across the globe, with the finals broadcast on the ABC.
