Singles - Semifinals
(1) Caroline Wozniacki (DEN) d. (16) Maria Sharapova (RUS) 61 62
(15) Marion Bartoli (FRA) d. (23) Yanina Wickmayer (BEL) 61 63
“Definitely didn't expect such a score, but I'm very pleased about the way I played and the way I got my tactics to work,” said Wozniacki, a runner-up to Jelena Jankovic last year. “I'm pleased about being in the finals.”
Sharapova broke Wozniacki in the opening game, but was unable to build on the promising start. She managed to hold serve just once during the match as the 20-year-old Dane cruised to the victory in one hour and 20 minutes.
“I think I had a very good return today,” said Wozniacki of Sharapova’s inability to hold serve. “I got a lot of returns in, so I was pleased about that. I think that was important today, both my serve and my returns, because I got a lot of first serves in, as well, which was important.”
