World Grand Prix volleyball champs set to compete in Montreux
2010 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix champions USA and FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship bronze medalists Japan will be two of the teams set to compete at the Montreux Volley Masters from June 7-12 in Switzerland after organisers released the schedule on Thursday.
They will be joined by Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, China, Cuba and Peru on the shores of Lac Leman for the six-day contest.
The tournament will act as preparation for the 2011 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix for USA, Japan, Italy, Cuba, Germany and China, all of whom are taking part in the premier annual volleyball competition.
The event is now in its 23rd year and is officially recognised by the FIVB, which sits just up the lake from Montreux in Lausanne.
The eight teams will be split into two pools of four with the top two from each group going onto the semifinals, set to take place on Saturday, ahead of the finals on Sunday.
Last year China beat USA 3-1 in the final to clinch the title, so the Americans will be eager to rectify that this time around.
