World Championship and Swiss Open teams selected

OTTAWASynchro Canada is pleased to announce the selections for the National ‘AA’ Team and National ‘A’ Team have been finalized in preparation for the upcoming competitive season.

Members of the National ‘AA’ Team will be competing at the FINA World Aquatic Championships July 19-Aug 2 in Rome, Italy, while the National ‘A’ Team will be competing at the Swiss Open in Zurich July 1-5.

Canada will be looking for its first medal at a World Championship since 2001 when the team won bronze.

“I am extremely proud of the effort put forth by our athletes and I cannot stress enough what an extraordinary group of athletes we have at the National Training Centre,” said head coach Denise Sauve. “I am equally proud of the coaching staff who worked so diligently through this process. The harmony that was demonstrated between the athletes as a group as well as with the coaches allows me to say that we have the potential to reach our goals.”

The National ‘AA’ Team will feature a number of new faces as eight of the 12 swimmers will be making their first appearance at the World Championships. Many have already gained valuable experience competing at the Junior World Championships and will have the leadership of veterans Marie-Pier Boudreau Gagnon, Eve Lamoureux, Elise Marcotte and Tracy Little to help lead the way.

The National ‘A’ Team features some of Canada’s top up and coming swimmers who are coming off a stellar performance at the German Open where they won two gold medals.

“We are extremely excited about the upcoming competitive season,” said Catherine Gosselin-Despres, Chief Operating Officer. “Our teams have shown substantial growth in the past few months and we are confident that we will see their efforts rewarded on the international stage.”
