Woolstencroft is the IPC World Champion in Slalom

Three other medals for the Canadian team in the slalom in Kangwon Land, KOR

“It was a good position to be after the first run, it really motivated me because I had nothing to lose. It is always a great feeling to win a race especially at the World Championships, I am very happy with my result today.”

Kimberly Joines (Rossland, BC) who competes in the women’s sitting category reached the second step of the podium behind the American Stephani Victor with a time of 2:09.50. After finishing sixth in the second run, Joines made a great comeback and had the best time of the second run.  

Chris Williamson (Markham, ON) along with guide Nick Brush (Panorama, BC) also finished second behind Jakub Krako from Slovakia. This is Williamson first medal for a slalom event in the World Championships.

“It was a pretty good day, Nick and I made a couple of mistakes in the first run, but our second run was better and we were able to move up a position. It is a great way to start the World Championships and there are still four races left, so I am very optimistic.”

Viviane Forest (Edmonton, AB), along with guide Lindsay Debou (Whistler, BC) who competes in the ladies visually impaired category finished second behind the Austrian Sabine Gasteiger and her guide Emil Gasteiger. This was Forest first race in the World Championships.

In the women’s standing category Andrea Dziewior (Nanaimo, BC) finished 9^th and in the men’s standing category Morgan Perrin (Vancouver, BC) finished 15^th.

Matt Hallat (Coquitlam, BC), Josh Dueck (Vernon, BC) and Karolina Wisniewska were among those who did not finish the race. Arly Fogarty (Montreal, QC) did not qualify for the second run.

The IPC World Championships continue tomorrow in Kangwon Land, KOR with the giant slalom event.
