Motorbike racing may be dominated by male riders, but there has been a fair share of female racers. Here is a look at some of the best women’s motorbike riders.
Maria Costello
Maria Costello has done a lot for women in the motorsport having made her debut in 1997 and building a very respectable motorbike race career. Costello has featured in a number of short circuit race series including the World Endurance and European Superstock. Much of her focus has been on TT racing. At one time, she held the record for the fastest lap by a female racer at the Isle of Man TT.
María Herrera Muñoz
Maria Herera Muñoz is still young at just 23-years-old but has had 53 Moto3 starts in her career. Hailing from a hot-bed of motorbike racing, Toldeo, Spain, Muñoz currently rides in MotoE for OpenbankAspar Team. In 2019, she finished 14th in the race series with 27 points from six races.
Jenny Tinmouth
Jenny Tinmouth holds the great distinction of being the first female rider on the British Superbike Championship series. She made her motorbike racing debut in 2000 riding 125GP bikes. Ten years after making her racing debut, Tinmouth set the TT outright fastest lap record of 119.9 mph. Tinmouth has achieved many firsts for women in motorsports. After a very successful race career, she has more recently worked as a stunt performer for major films, prestigious carmakers, and TV and YouTube series. Tinmouth now runs her own Privateer racing team, Two Wheel Racing.
Jane Daniels
British racer Jane Daniels is an elite ride regardless of gender and continues to achieve accolades from the motorbike race world. The enduro rider has been a superstar in the race world and a role model for young ladies aspiring to enter motorsports. In 2019, Daniels became the Women’s World Enduro Champion. She continues to thrive in motorbike racing and could win the Women’s World Enduro Championship once more this year.
Ana Carrasco Gabarrón
Ana Carrasco Gabarrón won the 2018 World Supersport 300 Championship as a member of Kawasaki Ninja 400. Her win made her the first woman in history to win a World Championship in solo motorcycle road racing. She competed in the Moto3 World Championships from 2015 to 2018 and was a teammate of current MotoGP starlet Maverick Vinales. In 2019, Gabarrón followed up her World Supersport 300 Championship win with a third-place finish. She is certainly a rider that shouldn’t be counted out to win a second title in the series.
