What a great year for Petra Kvitova

ST. PETERSBURG, FL, USA - The WTA Player Awards are out, with nine players being honored by fans and media for their outstanding achievements on and off the court, as well as two tournaments being honored by the players.

Petra Kvitova was voted Player Of The Year for a season that saw her win six WTA titles - including her first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon and the TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championships - and going from No.34 at the start of the year to No.2 at year-end. She also led the Czechs to the Fed Cup title.

"This season has been simply a dream," Kvitova said. "It is an incredible honor to win the Player Of The Year award and join the ranks of some of the best players that have ever played the sport, especially Martina Navratilova. I will always cherish the 2011 season and look forward to building on it."

For her on-court achievements, Kvitova was also named Most Improved Player and was further honored with the Karen Krantzcke Sportsmanship Award, which acknowledges a player's professionalism, attitude and sense of fair play.

Kveta Peschke and Katarina Srebotnik earned Doubles Team Of The Year. In a fiercely-contested doubles season, they claimed a WTA-leading six titles, including their first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon. They also rose to No.1.
