Wasps and Army player Leonard set for England debut

Wasps and Army flanker Jane Leonard will make her England debut against the USA on Saturday December 15th at London Irish AFRC, Sunbury, kick-off 230pm following the withdrawal of Saracens’ Maggie Alphonsi.

Forward Leonard moves from the bench to the starting line-up with Alphonsi being rested because of an injury. The 24-year-old has previously run out for England A.

With Leonard’s promotion to the starting line-up Worcester’s Gemma Sharples could also make her England bow. She replaces Leonard on the bench.

England head coach Gary Street said: “The unfortunate withdrawal of Maggie Alphonsi sees Jane Leonard given the chance to make her England debut. She is a supremely fit and talented player who will add different dimensions to our game. This is also a great opportunity for Gemma to also make the step-up from England A rugby.”
