In a three set match on Friday afternoon, one set a piece, an electric match was played by Venus Williams and Kim Clijsters. Williams was the stronger of the two early on, converting on the only break point of the first set and eventually grabbing a one set lead. The No.2-seeded Clijsters reasserted herself in the second set and went on to win the third set 46 76 64.
