VAN AS SENT PACKING AFTER WORLD CUP

Fresh , as she can be, after the grueling FIH BDO World Cup campaign and tough -fought final at Rosario, Dutch Hockey star, Naomi van As has been sent packing and will be moving sideways! She is transferring to a new club higher up the Hooftklasse table and the Netherlands top league starts its first games later today.

Naomi shared the news of the move with fans and friends recently by posting a candid shot of removal boxes in her Den Haag flat on her Facebook ( Naomi ) . She played her club hockey at Klein Zwitserland (Little Switzerland) near her home town Den Haag but now moves east of Amsterdam, tomorrow lining up with her new team, Laren. They will be looking for her help to strengthen their challenge for top spot. She will be playing along with Rosario International team mates, Minke Smeets , Kim Lammers , Dijkstra and recent international goalkeeping debutant ( and natural golden find for Laren and Holland ) Joyce Sombroek According to Joyce , whom I spoke to recently the national squad have yet to be called to begin training together thus, unlike teams in the English Women’s premier division , the top Hooftklasse teams will have their internationals available to play and probably for the next three or four games in the diary.

The Netherlands Hooftklasse, the Dutch equivalent of the England Premiership Division , and the majority of members of the team that were beaten in the World Cup final against Argentina, will be back at their local clubs but Janneke Schopman leaves Den Bosch and will be starting at Den Haag DLM principally as coach in the club’s bid to encourage and develop its young players and enable them to compete more effectively against the clubs that currently have dominated the league. Several teams have seen a number of departures over the summer and will be looking to rebuild to last seasons levels. Of these Amsterdam’s direct neighbour Pinoke again this season will field virtually a complete new team I read. How will the teams match up this season in the battle for the Playoffs?
