USA Water Ski Sanctions Record Number Of Events In 2008
Barefooting and wakeboarding events increase by more than 30 percent
POLK CITY, Fla. – USA Water Ski is pleased to announce that 2008 denotes the second consecutive year it has broken the record for the number of sanctioned water sports events held during the season. In 2008 there were 1,024 events compared to 1,004 in 2007.
USA Water Ski is comprised of nine sport disciplines: three-event water skiing, show skiing, barefooting, wakeboarding, collegiate water skiing, water ski racing, hydrofoiling, kneeboarding and disabled water skiing. The most notable achievements over the past year were a 30 percent increase in barefooting events and a 31 percent increase in wakeboarding events.
“We are thrilled with the increased interest and number of sanctioned events this year,” said Steve Locke, executive director of USA Water Ski. “The ongoing rise in numbers indicates that a strong interest remains for events within the water sports industry.”
USA Water Ski was formed in 1939 as a non-profit organization promoting water skiing in the United States. USA Water Ski is affiliated with the International Water Ski Federation (world governing body) and is recognized by the United States Olympic Committee and Pan-American Sports Organization as the national governing body of organized water skiing in the United States.
