The USA , currently ranked 9th in the World following a sixth place in the Samsung World Cup last year , are currently touring the Netherlands as part of their preparation for this summer’s Pan American Games to be held in Rio De Janeiro July 15th – 29th. In the first game of their five game tour, in Rotterdam 24th April, the Dutch , current World Champions , came away with a 3- 0 Victory.
The match marked the U.S. National Team debut for Caroline Nichols (Virginia Beach) and Dana Sensing (Denver) who earned their first international caps in the contest. Defender Kelly Doton (Greenfield) was named the USA's Player of the Match.
The Netherlands Dominated the first 10 minutes of the match, converting a penalty corner on the 5 minute mark and added to the lead in the 22nd minute from a direct penalty corner shot.
After conceding the first two goals, the USA settled in and held their own for the remainder of the half. The USA withstood three additional Netherlands penalty corner attempts, but failed to capitalize on a pair of penalty corner chances. The USA had a chance to get on the scoreboard early in the second half, but sadly Tiffany Snow skied her penalty stroke. The Netherlands added their third penalty corner of the game late in the contest to secure the match.
