BEIJING (Olympics) – Spain played as if an upset might be on the cards in the second quarter but forgot to show up for the second half and crashed to a heavy 93-55 defeat.
Spain trailed 39-34 at half-time but scored just 21 points after the interval.
Tina Thompson, who has been the USA’s most influential player at the Beijing Games, led the way with 17 points – 12 in the second half.
The Americans won for the fourth time and lead Group B while Spain dropped to 2-2.
