MONTPELLIER (EuroLeague Women) - There won't be much any team can do to stop the United States women at the London Games if Seimone Augustus maintains her current form.
The MVP of the WNBA Finals after leading the Minnesota Lynx to their first title last year, Augustus is now in Russia with Sparta&K Moscow Region and on Wednesday night, she was terrific in the clutch at Lattes Montpellier.
Augustus poured in eight of her 22 points in the fourth quarter, including six of Sparta&K's last eight, as they came from 10 points down in the final frame to win 72-71.
After missing the 2010 FIBA World Championship for Women because of injury, Augustus is poised for a return to the national team at the Olympics.
She played at the Beijing Games, helping the Americans go undefeated and capture a gold medal.
Lattes Montpellier point guard Edwige Lawson, who will play for France at the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament for Women and had 19 points on Thursday, tipped her hat to Augustus after her game-winning display.
"We played a really complete game tonight, both on offense and defense," she said.
"But sometimes you can't beat pure talent.
"For me, Seimone Augustus is one of the best players in the world."
