CONNECTICUT - There's no time for Breanna Stewart to sit back, put her feet up and savour her second gold medal at the FIBA U19 World Championship for Women, or being deservedly hailed as the best player on view in Lithuania.
Instead, the phenomenally talented USA star is engaged in a race against time to prepare herself for a visit to The White House with national team colleagues Morgan Tuck and Moriah Jefferson.
The USA Basketball representatives will make the visit not because of their success in Klaipeda, but as part of the traditional recognition of the NCAA champions and through their involvement with UConn.
Now of course Stewart and Co will have another medal to show off on their trip, even if Stewart is sweating on finding the time to throw off the casual basketball look in favour of something more befitting of her pending appointment.
"I know, I don’t just need to get my fingernails done, but I need to take care of the whole package," laughed Stewart.
The small forward was sensational and after taking the MVP accolade, is now reflecting on repeating her podium topping exploits of 2011 at the event.
"Winning the gold medal now and also in Chile, do feel like very different occasions and I think imaybe it's because I was the younger player in Chile and (in Lithuania) I had to play like I was a veteran” said Stewart with a smile.
"It was actually a case of having to play different roles, but I enjoyed playing and winning gold with both of the teams."
"Both gold medal wins certainly do feel very, very special to me.
"It actually feels really goo,d because after being together preparing and playing for over a month, our goal was always to get the gold medal in Lithuania.
"We didn’t really play our best against France in the Preliminary Round and we wanted to show everyone that we could play much better.
"We really wanted to make a statement with our defence and I think we did a good job."
The USA crushed France 61-28 in the title game and went through the entire tournament without tasting defeat, to secure their fifth successive U19W title.
