USA - Big Syl, Taurasi come with the goods for Galatasaray

ANTAKYA (Olympics) - Sylvia Fowles and Diana Taurasi underlined their status as two of the top players in the world with stellar displays for Galatasaray in their Turkish Cup triumph over Fenerbahce.

Taurasi, a two-time Olympic gold-medal winner with the Americans, had 18 points and scored on consecutive trips down the floor late in the contest to put Gala in front to stay in a 76-72 win over their rivals in Sunday's Final.

Fowles, who made her Olympic bow with the USA at the Beijing Games and then played alongside Taurasi in the 2010 world title winning side, had 25 points and 16 rebounds.

The big center was unstoppable in the team's semi-final triumph over Botas as well, making all nine of her shots from the floor and eight of 10 free-throws en route to 26 points.

The 1.98m Fowles had nine rebounds and three blocks in that contest.

Both Taurasi and Fowles have been named as finalists for the USA squad to play at the London Games.

The American women will be gunning for a fifth consecutive gold medal at an Olympic Games when the event is staged this summer in London.
