Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, May 1, 2011 – Brazilian club Unilever clniched the women’s Superliga title on Sunday with a tense straight sets win (25-23, 30-28, 25-19) over rivals Sollys Osasco in Rio de Janeiro as the domestic season drew to a close in the South American country.
Led by Brazil legend Sheila, who scored 19 points in a memorable match, and Brazil men’s coach Bernardinho, the side claimed their fifth title since the competition began.
"Our victory was a team. We were more consistent throughout the season and the final itself,” Unilever libero Fabi said. “The first and second sets were balanced and could have gone to either team but we played better on crucial points.”
"I told all the girls we were going to win by 3 sets to 0 and nobody believed me,” Sheila added. "It's great playing at home with my whole family watching. This title is dedicated to my grandmother Teresa that always gave me great strength.”
