ENGLAND Under-18 Girls registered a morale-boosting three-nil victory over rivals Scotland at the National Sports Centre at Lilleshall in Shropshire on Sunday.
It took the young team just three minutes before scoring their first goal, and it was Ipswich’s Hannah Martin who was on hand to deflect the ball home at the left post following a good ball across the face of goal from Georgia Byas.
Their lead was doubled after 27 minutes, Alice Freeman of Wycombe HC deflecting in at the left after a goalmouth melee. But they had to wait until virtually the end of the game for the third and final goal to come, Jessica Orrett scoring from a corner routine, deflecting home at the right hand post.
“It was the team’s first opportunity to play together,” said assistant coach Gareth Tyler. “It has identified some areas to improve, but it has also given us chances to identify where to learn and develop. “We are pleased with the result, but looking forward to the game tomorrow (Monday) to build on this performance.”
