The UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) women's gymnastics team easily defeated Minnesota and Denver in a meet titled the John Wooden Challenge. The Bruins scored196.650 to Minnesota 's 194.475 and Denver 's 193.850. Dominating the meet in the individual category was UCLA's Elyse Hopfner-Hibbs, who won the all around (39.00), the floor exercise (9.925), the balance beam (9.875) and tied for first in the vault with teammate, TaunyFrattone (9.875). Samantha Peszek completed the Bruin sweep of top honors by winning the uneven parallel bars (9.925). Only Minnesota 's Kristin Furakawa prevented a Bruin sweep of second place in all events by posting a 9.900 in the uneven parallel bars.
UCLA's next meet with Georgia and Arizona on March 6, 2011 should be more competitive.
