COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - USA Volleyball conducted its three-day U.S. Women's National Team Open Tryout Feb. 20-22 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. The tryout attracted a record 160 athletes seeking spots on the U.S. Women's National Team, the U.S. Women's Junior National Team or the USA Women's Senior A2 Team.

"I was very impressed with the talent and depth of the players who participated in the tryout this past weekend," U.S. Women's National Team Head Coach Hugh McCutcheon (Christchurch, New Zealand) said. "The athletes worked very hard to be evaluated by our tryout coaching staff, who put in many hours over the weekend to make for a successful tryout. Overall, this was a very positive experience for our program."

The 2009 U.S. Women's National Team Open Tryout roster included 39 outside hitters, 39 middle blockers, 37 liberos, 28 setters and 17 opposites. A total of 64 different colleges were represented on the roster, including four non-NCAA Division I institutions. A total of 33 athletes were competing for roster spots for U.S. Women's Junior National Team inclusion, as well as the U.S. Women's National Team and its A2 program.
