| MADISON, Wis. – Backed by four-point efforts from Monique Lamoureux (Grand Forks, N.D.) and Jenny Potter (Edina, Minn.), the U.S. Women's National Team blanked the University of Wisconsin, 9-0, here tonight at the Kohl Center. Fourteen players factored in the scoring in the homecoming for seven current or former Badgers on the U.S. squad, plus Head Coach Mark Johnson. "There was a great atmosphere tonight," said Johnson. "It was nice to come back home and see all of the local support - it was a special night for our team." The U.S. was successful on three of 13 shot attempts in the opening frame, while Jessie Vetter (Cottage Grove, Wis.) turned both of her former team's shots aside for a 3-0 score after 20 minutes. Kelli Stack (Brooklyn Heights, Ohio) was first to light the lamp, as she skated across the goalmouth and put a backhander just inside the left post at 5:03. Lisa Chesson (Plainfield, Ill.) doubled the U.S. lead at 10:06 with a low wrister from the top of the left faceoff circle. Hilary Knight (Hanover, N.H.), who still has two years of eligibility remaining at Wisconson after her time with Team USA, closed the period's scoring after receiving a feed from Potter and roofing it from the bottom of the slot at 12:22. With a new goaltender at each end for the second period (U.S.-Brianne McLaughlin, Wisconsin-Nikki Kaasa), Team USA again netted three goals, while outshooting Wisconsin, 15-1. Former Badger Jinelle Zaugg-Siergiej (Eagle River, Wis.) tipped a Kacey Bellamy (Westfield, Mass.) one-timer at 4:23 on the power play, then Monique Lamoureux scored twice in an :08 span in the final minute of play to give the U.S. a six-goal advantage. The U.S. scored three more times in the third frame to account for the 9-0 final. Jocelyne Lamoureux (Grand Forks, N.D.) tallied at 9:54, followed by a Potter snap shot that beat netminder Becca Ruegsegger from the goalmouth at 13:11. Recent Badger alum Erika Lawler (Fitchburg, Mass.) closed out scoring with :38 left on the game clock. Vetter earned the win in net for the U.S. with two saves, while McLaughlin made seven stops, including on a third-period penalty shot. Wisconsin's three goaltenders combined for 29 saves.
