Tweddle leads Britain to superb medal haul

Great Britain has finished the 2009 European Artistic Gymnastics Championships with a superb medal haul – 2 Gold, 2 Silver and a Bronze medal.

Star of the show is Beth Tweddle who claimed victory in both the Floor and Asymmetric Bars competitions.

Commenting on her Bars routine Beth said, “"It is nice to be back,” Beth gasped as she recovered from the routine. "Since 2006 I have had my share of 4th positions and all week I have been so focused on getting everything right. I was a touch short on the Tkachev half and I think it was pure determination that got me through".

Head of the British Delegation to Milan, Brendene Hardy almost needed oxygen as the scores went up: “What a performance and what a great gymnast Beth is". With 5 medals Britain is near the top of the medal tally table with 2 Gold, 2 Silver and a Bronze. "I feel very honoured and priviledged to be a member of this talented team. Beth and Amanda (Kirby- coach) knew what had to be done and they have delivered a result. Dan Keatings and Louis were fantastic. In fact this is a relatively young team of gymnasts and they have the promise of many more medals up to and beyond 2012".

The team return to England on Monday and some members will compete again in Glasgow at the Grand Prix to give you a chance to see for yourselves the Great British Gymnasts.
