Turkey entered the history book when they crowned with the gold medal at the FIVB Girls’ Youth World championship in front of 7.200 excited spectators who had a big role in supporting their team in a crazy final against China.
Turkey hammered their opponent 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-22) in 78 minutes that made the spectators on their toes to celebrate the historic trophy.
Although Turkey was not one of world volleyball’s traditional forces but they are fast becoming a force to in the last two years. 2010 showed Turkey celebrating its first triumph in a major FIVB competition when Fenerbahce’s women took the world club crown in Qatar before the Turkey Girls’ Youth team claimed the first ever National level gold medal.
Serbia claimed the bronze medal after a straight sets victory over Poland (25-21, 25-13, 25-18) in the third palce match. Germany finished fifth after they took over Brazil 3-1 (23-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-19). Japan ended seventh sweeping Argentina 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-17).
USA finished ninth with fifth consecutive win over Slovakia 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-14), Italy sink 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-20) Mexico to finish eleventh. Thailand power to 13th rank after beating Egypt 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-11). Puerto Rico sign off with a victory 3-1 (20-25, 25-11, 27-25, 25-12) over Algeria for the fifteenth position.
Gold medal match Turkey outclass China to claim the World Championship gold Turkey v China 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-22)
Turkey won a hard-fought match against a valiant China team in straight sets (25-19, 25-17, 25-22) in the final match of the 2011 FIVB Girls’ Youth World Championship at Baskent Hall in Ankara, Turkey in front of a full house of more than 7.200 spectators.
Kubra Akman’s fantastic blocking and swooping spikes from all over the court ultimately gave the Turkish team a narrow edge in a close match spiced with hustle plays and long rallies.
The Chinese players were affected by the noise of the local crowd and showed unusual disturbance in defense and also in their well known combinations. They fell into a lot of mistakes that were used efficiently by the outstanding Turkish player. Point by point the Turkish team showed more solid performance and motivation till they completely controlled the match
Bronze medal match Resurgent Serbia put paid to Poland to win the bronze Serbia v Poland 3-0 (25-21, 25-13, 25-18)
Serbia overcame Poland in a grueling match (25-21, 25-13, 25-18) in the bronze medal face off. The Serbian solid blockers were the key factor in this victory with their stable performance that made the Polish team unable to penetrate the net barrier throughout the match.
Serbia won the bronze medal which is the second best performance in their history after the silver two years ago. Poland finish at the fourth position which is the best finish for them similar to their achievement in 1999.
The best scorer among the winners was their captain Bianka Busa gained 12 points while the most successful player between Poland's players was Iga Chojnacka with 9 points.
"Bronze is like gold for us" said the Serbian team captain Busa Bianca. “It was hard to find the power to play after yesterdays match against Turkey. We were very sad and negative because of the match yesterday but we managed to stay positive during the game.”
Positions 5-6 Germany rebound positively to overcome Brazil Germany v Brazil 3-1 (23-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-19)
Germany won a hard-fought match against a valiant Brazil team 3-1 (23-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-19) in the ranking match for the 5th and 6th positions. Germany end their matches at the fifth position, which is the best finish for them in the history of the competition, their best before was the 10th in 2009. Brazil finish in the 6th position the best for them was the gold medal in three occasions 1997, 2005 and 2009.
After they lost the first set the German team dominated the court completely and they used well the reception mistakes done by the Brazilians to apply their strategy specially the tactical service that weren’t tolerated by their opponent.
Susanne Besa leads Germany scorers with 25 points, while the highest score among Brazil players was that of Gabriela Braga Guimaraes, 15 points.
"We are in the top 5, so we are happy for that." commented Germany coach Tietböhl. “We are also very happy to have played with Brazil which is a very strong team.”
Positions 7-8 Japan Cruise past Argentina for the seventh position Japan v Argentina 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-17)
Japan booked the seventh position following their straight sets victory over Argentina (25-22, 25-20, 25-17) in their last match.
Argentina now finished at the eighth which is the second best finish after the seventh position in 1991. Japan’s best performance in this championship was the gold medal twice in 1995 and 1997.
Aya Horie led Japan scorers with 20 points among which 16 were gained by successful attacks. In Argentina the most successful was Antonela Fortuna gained 13 points for her team.
"I hope the experience will help in the next tournament" said the Japan coach Hanzawa. “We are very happy to end the tournament with a win. During this championship we had very hard games and this gave my players really much experience.
Positions 9-10 USA finish ninth with fifth consecutive win USA v Slovakia 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-14)
The USA racked up their fifth consecutive victory at 2011 FIVB Girls’ Youth World Championship with a straight sets (25-21, 25-16, 25-14) triumph over Slovakia on the final day of the tournament to claim the ninth place. The US finished on a high note with the help of a remarkable show of scoring power from their middle blockers Mallory McCage and Amber Rolfzen, who delivered twelve and eleven points respectively. Paulina Prieto Cerame totaled 13 in the winning effort while Lauren Carlini had four blocks among her six points. Slovakia’s scoring was led by Nikola Pistelakova who posted nine for the losing side. Andrea Strbova notched five and Miroslava Rehakova added four points. USA coach James Stone: “We saw Slovakia playing very well yesterday versus Italy. I’m very proud how my players entered the match. They were much focused, playing on a high level today.” USA captain Mallory McCage: “It was a privilege to play world champs. We improved our level with every single match. Today we run a very strong offense play.”
Positions 11-12 Italy sink Mexico to finish eleventh Italy v Mexico 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-20)
Italy defeated Mexico in straight sets (25-18, 25-15, 25-20) in a one-way match to earn eleventh place at the FIVB Girls’ Youth World Championship Turkey at Ankara Sports Hall on Sunday afternoon. Captain Elena Perinelli top-scored for the “squadra azzurra” with 16 points while Samantha Bricio recorded 16 for Mexico. Both teams concluded their 2011 world champs campaign three ranks inferior to 2009 when Italy and Mexico finished eighth and ninth respectively. After the loss to Slovakia on Saturday night, Italy came out with its game face on today and strolled to an undisputed 3-0 win. Italy coach Luca Pieragnoli: “I’m satisfied to finish the tournament on a high note. We didn’t answer expectations earlier in this competition, but showed a good performance today.” Italy captain Elena Perinelli: “It was important to show a reaction after yesterday’s defeat versus Slovakia. We played on a high level today.”
Positions 13-14 Thailand power to 13th rank Thailand v Egypt 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-11)
Thailand booked their second consecutive win after a straight-sets victory (25-15, 25-15, 25-11) over Egypt on the last day of the 2011 FIVB Girls’ Youth World Championship to finish the prestigious competition on the 13th place. Jarun Niemtuptim’s team was dominant from start to finish. The young Egyptians fought sportingly but could not deal with the speed game and skill of the Thai and lost their sixth match here in Ankara, Turkey.
Ajcharaporn Kongyot and Khatthalee Pinsuwan led Thailand with 14 points each. Kaewkalaya Kamulthala chipped in with seven points while Aya Elshamy scored seven points for Egypt, who committed 20 errors to Thailand's 15.

Positions 15-16 Puerto Rico sign off with second victory over Algeria Puerto Rico v Algeria 3-1 (20-25, 25-11, 27-25, 25-12)
Puerto Rico prevailed against Algeria in the fight for 15th spot at the 2011 FIVB Girls’ Youth World Championship on Sunday morning. In an intense match at Ankara Sports Hall, it was the Caribbean who emerged victorious in four sets (20-25, 25-11, 27-25, 25-12) to book their second win here in Turkey. Leading Puerto Rico’s scoring on the day was Stephanie Massanet with 25 points. Alba Hernandez added 15 while Lucia Castro and Ana Sofia Jusino contributed 13 and 10 respectively. Algeria’s leading scorer was Louiza Bayou who posted ten points in a losing effort. Captain Celia Bourihane and Dallal Merwa Achour charted nine and eight.
Puerto Rico coach Eric Gonzalez: “My players slept in the first set. They needed one set to wake up. Then we served much better to gain momentum.” Puerto Rico captain Daly Santana: “We acted too anxiously in the beginning of the match. But then we wake up to control the game.”
