Top Ten Finish for Synchro Swimmers in first world's final
The British Gas GBR Synchronised Swimming team were in action today at the FINA World Championships, finishing tenth in their first final.
The team reached the Technical Team final for the first time after failing to progress in 2009. Their finals score saw an improvement on their performance in the preliminary round.
Edging closer to rivals, the USA, they finished in tenth spot with a score of 87.600 for their routine performed to a medley of Queen tracks.
Katie Dawkins said: "It felt like it went really well tonight. In the warm up we worked on the mistakes we made in the prelims and saw an improvement in our scores.
"This year we have worked really hard on our team technical because we wanted to improve on 2009 and qualify for the finals which we did.
"I feel like we've taken a step forward by achieving our goal of reaching the final. It gives us great confidence for next year as the technical routine is an Olympic event.
"We know that this event needs to be good next year so we're going to go back, work hard and make sure it is as good as can be in twelve months time."
The team also competed in the Team Free Combination preliminary in the morning session in China, qualifying for the finals in seventh place.
Meanwhile, Commonwealth silver medallists Jenna Randall and Olivia Allison qualified for the finals of the Duet Free competition.
After three days of competition, the British Gas GBR Synchronised Swimming team has reached five out of five finals.
