Third ITTF Pro Tour Women’s Doubles Title of the Year for Guo Yue and Li Xiaoxia
Reigning World champions Guo Yue and Li Xiaoxia, the no.1 seeds, won the Women’s Doubles title at the United Arab Emirates Open in Dubai on Saturday 19th February 2011 and in so doing maintained their incredible record as a partnership in international competition.
One has to return to September 2008 since they last suffered defeat.
The occasion was in the final in Shanghai at the Panasonic China Open when they lost in seven games to Hong Kong’s Jiang Huajun and Tie Yana.
In Dubai they beat Korea’s Seok Ha Jung and Yang Ha Eun 11-9, 11-7, 11-5, 11-5.
Previous Meetings Furthermore, on the two occasions prior to the meeting in Dubai that they had faced Seok Ha Jung and Yang Ha Eun, they had recorded comprehensive straight game victories.
In 2010 they won in the doubles duel in the World Team Cup Classic in Dubai when China met Korea in the semi-finals of the women’s event and then the following month they won when they met in the Women’s Doubles event at the Asian Games in Guangzhou.
Tested Guo Yue and Li Xiaoxia captured the first game, a game in which the Koreans did themselves great credit, they never let the Chinese duo dominate matters.
However, as the contest progressed and some loud mouth male supporter sitting behind kept piercing my ear drums with the cry of “Zhong Guo Dui”, Guo Yue and Li Xiaoxia took control.
Took Control “The China Team” was in the ascendancy; Guo Yue and Li Xiaoxia, obeying the instructions of coach, Kong Linghui, dominated the third game and duly completed matters as taking risks, the Koreans made errors.
Tenth Title Once again it was gold for Guo Yue and Li Xiaoxia; their tenth career title as a pairing on the ITTF Pro Tour and their third of the year, they won in January in Slovenia and six days earlier in Qatar.
