The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) Group commemorates the second year of the world’s only night race in Singapore, the 2009 FORMULA 1™ SingTel Singapore Grand Prix, with a golf clinic for dyslexic youth featuring three-time Formula 1 World Champion and RBS Ambassador, Sir Jackie Stewart.

The RBS sponsored golf clinic is being organised by the Singapore Chapter of global golf charity, The First Tee and reflects Sir Jackie’s ongoing support for the Dyslexia Association of Singapore (DAS). It is also in line with RBS’ corporate sustainability objective which aims to help youth grow and develop through sports, sponsoring the champions of tomorrow. RBS has supported The First Tee programme in the United States since 2004, giving young people of all backgrounds the opportunity to develop and learn life-enhancing values such as honesty, integrity and sportsmanship through golf.

At The First Tee Singapore’s chapter house at Minden Road, Sir Jackie and PGA Professional Coach Rick Stewart introduced the game of golf to 15 youths from DAS. During the two hour clinic, the participants were taught basic golf shots such as chipping, putting and driving.
“RBS’s involvement in sports sponsorship has helped us build our brand across the globe. We are proud to once again have our ambassador, Sir Jackie Stewart, in Singapore for the 2009 FORMULA 1™ SingTel Singapore Grand Prix, to help us in our efforts to develop youth talent through sports. We are also pleased to sponsor the golf clinic in support of Sir Jackie’s passion as a champion of dyslexia awareness and education,” said RBS’ Country Executive of Singapore, Mr Muhammad Aurangzeb.
This golf clinic reinforces the relationship between Sir Jackie and DAS, of which he is a strong supporter. In his efforts to raise awareness of and improve teaching facilities for dyslexia, Sir Jackie – who is dyslexic himself – has cultivated contacts within senior government ranks and key officials including President S R Nathan, Minister of Community Development, Youth and Sports, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan and DAS President Dr Jimmy Daruwalla, who are very supportive of his dyslexia
advocacy. Sir Jackie is also Vice President of the British Dyslexia Association (BDA) and President of Dyslexia Scotland.
