Bone and muscle health may begin when we’re young. But as we go through life, the activities we engage in and the foods that we eat have a lot to do with the overall health of our bones and muscles.

The Essential Vitamin D

Many people know that Vitamin D is an important nutrient for maintaining a health-friendly lifestyle. However, an alarming amount of people actually don’t get adequate Vitamin D on a daily basis.

Vitamin D enables our bodies to absorb calcium. And without calcium, our bones, muscles, brains, and even an already healthy immune system cannot function at an optimal level. As such, this is why it’s important to ensure that you’re getting enough Vitamin D on a daily basis. 

Human beings are able to take in Vitamin D from sunlight. And this is because our bodies have Vitamin D receptors throughout. However, those who live in the far northern tier of the planet, or those who live in regions where the sun barely peeks through the clouds have difficulty naturally taking in Vitamin D.

Regular Exercise 

Another great way to ensure that you’re supporting healthy bones and muscles is to engage in regular exercise. And the more you’re able to work your muscles, the stronger and more flexible they will become.

Human beings need protein for a variety of bodily functions to work as they’re supposed to. And without an adequate amount of protein, your brain, muscle, and bone health may eventually deteriorate. 

Thankfully, we can get a vast amount of protein from eating foods such as red meat, leafy greens, fish, and a variety of nuts, beans, and legumes. And even if you’re a vegetarian or a vegan, ensuring that you’re getting enough protein is a great way to adopt a health-supporting lifestyle.

A few foods high in protein are as follows:

  • Peanut butter

  • Eggs

  • Pasta

  • Potatoes 

Studies have also shown that depending on your body type, each person requires a different amount of protein in order to function at an optimal level. In fact, additional studies have shown that the brain doesn’t fully “wake up” until a sufficient amount of protein has been acquired. And this is why it’s just as important for you to incorporate protein into your diet, not only for bone and muscle health but for proper mental health as well. 

By making sure you’re getting enough protein on a daily basis, you’ll be able to build on an already healthy body and live a health-supporting life.
