The Co-operative attracted over 150 golf enthusiasts to tee off on the famous Nicklaus and Cheshire golf course’s at Carden Park in Cheshire this week, raising over £ 20,000 for Refuge.
Liz Matkin, The Co-operative Sponsorship Manager, said; “There was a fantastic turn out at the event and everybody had a great day of golfing followed by an evening of fun filled entertainment, but the importance of the day was not forgotten. Being the official sponsor of The Co-operative Netball Superleague, we work closely with England Netball to support this worthy charity. We are thrilled with the success of the event this year and the funds are going to such an essential charity.”
The day’s activities included a full round of golf where 36 teams challenged each other on the fairway to scoop the winners trophy, followed by a golf trick shot show by trick shot world champion, Geoff Swain. The event was rounded off nicely with a four course dinner and charity auction hosted by Mike Osman all in aid of Refuge.
Dianne Nelmes, a Trustee of Refuge and ITV Production's Director of Daytime and Lifestyle attended the dinner and said it was a great privilege to see Refuge honoured at such a big, commercial event.
"Refuge, like many other charities, is always struggling to attract funds to support its many services for women and children. We are enormously grateful to The Co-operative Group and to England Netball for making Refuge their beneficial charity and to everyone who took part in the day. This generous, financial donation will help Refuge to maintain its wide and varied work and to provide safety and shelter for thousands of women and children in the country who are victims of domestic violence."
