The Co-operative Netball Superleague Round 9 and Looking Forward to Round 10

Round 9 of The Co-operative Netball Superleague got off to a flying start for TeamBath as they defeated defending champions Mavericks 55-41, maintaining their unbeaten record this season after eight matches.

TeamBath, spurred on by a large home crowd, made a blistering start to the Sky Sports televised match, winning the first quarter by 10 goals. The home side’s goal shooter and mid-court players dominated the initial stages of the match, with Sara Bayman and Jo Binns making some excellent interceptions.

The final quarter saw Mavericks managing to dominate the majority of the final quarter despite their eventual defeat.

TeamBath proved a strong outfit in this match, showing that they are a force to be reckoned with this season.

Looking ahead, TeamBath take on Leeds Carnegie on Friday January 9 at the University of Bath’s Sports Training Village. Will Leeds come out fighting to defeat the leaders of the table?

Glasgow Wildcat’s failed to scrape themselves off the bottom of the table after their 38-58 defeat against Northern Thunder on home soil.

Thunder raced ahead in the first quarter, leading by 12 goals at the first beak. Wildcats clawed back in the second quarter but the final quarter saw captain Leslie McDonald being forced to leave the game after suffering a calf injury. Despite her exit, the team managed to win the final quarter and will no doubt take away some positives from their performance in the final 15 minutes.

Wildcats coach Denise Holland said: “We were really pleased with our full court defence and yet again we forced a well structured side with many errors, improvements were also made through the mid-court attack, delivering the ball safely to the circle edge.

“We will take everything we have learnt to date into the second half of the season and continue to contest in more and more quarters.”
