Thailand by UTMB - 2021 Edition

Thailand by UTMB - one of Asia’s leading trail running events - took place on December 11th 2021 in Chiang Mai, also known as the roof of Thailand.

More than 2400 runners and 22 elite athletes from over 10 countries joined the race. Being back on track safely was the ultimate goal. The event strictly followed the preventive and control guidelines “Covid Free Setting”, as well as the manual of Covid relief measures from the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Thailand.

There were 5 categories: 168km, 107km, 54km, 23km and 14km to welcome all levels of runners. The 168km Inthanon 6 category started on a perfect sunny day. The women’s field was incredibly competitive this year. Fuzhao Xiang from China and Kaori Niwa from Japan were the ones to follow. While in the men’s field, JiaJu Zhao from China, Nepal’s top trail runner Sanger Sherpa and Japan’s Wataru Lino locked horns for the top spot.

With many events still being canceled due to the pandemic, 2021 Thailand by UTMB was definitely an exciting and highly anticipated event in Asia. We felt the passion of the participants for trail running and the determination of the organizer, Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT).
