Tennis Porsche Grand Prix-We had our chances but we couldn’t take them”
Stuttgart. Partnered by Julia Görges, Anna-Lena Grönefeld lost Sunday’s doubles final at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix. The Porsche Team Germany players were defeated by the Czech duo of Iveta Benesova/Barbora Zahlavova Strycova 6-4, 7-5. Afterwards Anna-Lena Grönefeld talked about
… their week and the final: “I think we played pretty good tennis this week and in the previous round when we defeated the top seeds. We had our chances in the second set, especially with a 5-2 lead. We had some close games but couldn’t close it out. Sometimes it happens this way, but it was a great week and nice to be in the final.”
… her partnership with Julia: “It’s always fun to play with Julia, we play doubles together here and there. She’s a great player of course and hopefully in the future we’ll have some more successful weeks like this.”
… playing at home: “It is just amazing playing here in front of our home crowd. It’s three hours before the singles final and we have almost a full house. We really appreciate all the people coming along to watch us, and that’s why so many players enjoy playing here.”
… her deciding to focus on doubles solely: “At the end of last year I wasn’t happy on court in my singles, and I thought ‘you’d better do something with your life that makes you happy’. So I decided it was time to just play doubles and right now I’m really happy with that decision. So far it has worked out well. I’m not so stressed out and I can feel within myself I’m so much happier and that’s the most important thing.”
