Table Tennis Moves Closer to Number One

Today the International Table Tennis Federation announced an increase to 215 affiliated nations, making the federation the second largest in the world.

This figure represents the continued and phenomenal world-wide push by the International Table Tennis Federation to ensure that every nation on the planet plays table tennis.
This figure includes 100% coverage of Oceania and makes the ITTF the only International Federation to have members in every nation across a whole continent.

The newly elected nations are:

- Wallis and Futuna
- Curacao/Netherlands Antilles
- Tokelau
- Antigua-Barbuda
- Mozambique
- British Virgin Islands

The all-inclusive nature of this truly global sport is currently being highlighted at the GAC GROUP World Table Tennis Championships in the Ahoy Arena, Rotterdam. Over 130 nations and 700+ players are competing over the eight day competition from the 8th -15th May.

This move places table tennis above Basketball and just seven nations away from over-taking Volleyball (222).

Adham Sharara ITTF President said: "I am vey proud of this achievement and it shows how strong our development programme is as we continue to grow each year."
